Lift As We Climb is a semi-annual fundraising party to support the experiential learning of eighth grade Boston Public School students, through travel to Washington DC. All of the proceeds of Lift As We Climb pay for student travel costs.

The eighth grade trip to Washington DC has become an annual tradition. Lead by an Art Teacher, a Civics Teacher, and an English Teacher in BPS, thirty students are able to engage in learning about history, activism, science, and art, as well as embark on a trip which builds their independence and community. Our itinerary includes visiting; the Capitol Building, Memorials and Monuments, the National Zoo, Howard University, the Smithsonian Museums, the Holocaust Museum, and the Frederick Douglas House.

In past Lift parties, local dj’s such as; Bob Diesel, Maurice Wilkey, Timmy Allen, Liza Zayas, and Eddie Neal have provided their support in beautiful music, as local artists like, Ife Franklin, Barrington Edwards, and Kwest have exhibited and donated amazing art for this cause. Lift fundraisers are by suggested donation, and have thrived on the belief in creating a fun experience with music and art while supporting a positive cause.

About Fela Anikulapo Kuti:
On October 15th, in the Ogun state of Nigeria, a legend was born. His name would be Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He would become an adversary of the Nigerian Government, take multiple wives, declare himself President of his own Republic, Fight as a voice of the people, arrested over 200 times, be thrown into prison and tortured multiple times all the while, inventing a completely new genre of music called Afrobeat by fusing traditional Yoruba rhythms with Highlife, Jazz, Funk and Soul and recording over 70 Albums in his rich life. During the month of his birth, we celebrate the man, his legacy and his music.

The second week of February 2010 will see Boston in a tumult of activity over the Together Festival, New England’s first electronic music festival. Nighttime events held all over the city having a common cause: dancing and music.

One of the most unique events, saved for last, falls on Valentine’s Day and will have people running to the beautiful converted church that is the Villa Victoria. The Get Together will be a multi-level record expo bringing music lovers together to buy, sell and share their much-loved collections. Boston's most beloved DJs will be providing fresh and classic tunes all day while professional vendors demonstrate the latest in DJ and production technology.

What’s more, in the spirit of the remix, a fashion show will be held, whereby Deconize, Carrigan dB and The Void Above, three of Boston's most groundbreaking local stylists will combine vintage, refurbished and new accoutrements from all eras to create theatrical, avant-garde looks that will literally be danced across the raised stage.

The stylists have announced that the inspiration for the fashion to be shown is “The futuristic and rebellious zeitgeist of the 1960’s, shuffled through the escapism and experimentalism embodied by electronic music’s storied history.”

Iconic styles will be transformed, many vintage pieces will undergo exquisite re-design, and in the spirit of a spectacular 1990’s Thierry Mugler fashion show, the models will dance and play to the music.

Hundreds of people will attend this event, and the potential to buy, sell, meet and share is huge. If you have a significant other, there couldn't be a better daytime activity for the electronically-inclined! If you're single, what better place find love than digging through stacks and racks?

This event is all about celebrating dance culture and our electronic lifestyle; we hope to see you there!
